OutVault launches August 4, 2026

What happens to my files if I stop paying?

Your files stay on your devices, fully readable, yours. Nothing gets locked, deleted, or held hostage. This is the most important promise a vault can make, so here it is in detail.

How the free and Premium split works

The OutVault app is free, and the free app is not a trial: it’s a complete, end-to-end encrypted vault on each device you install it on. Premium adds the connections between devices — encrypted sync and share links.

If you cancel Premium:

  • Every file already on your devices stays there, in the vault, exactly as before. The app keeps working.
  • Sync stops. Your devices stop exchanging changes, so each vault carries on independently from that point.
  • You can export everything, any time — before cancelling, after cancelling, whenever. There is no lock-in window and no export fee.
  • Resubscribing later picks sync back up. Your vaults reconcile and continue.

Why we built it this way

A vault you have to keep paying to open isn’t a vault — it’s a landlord. Because OutVault is offline-first, your data’s home is your own device, and a subscription only ever pays for the convenience of connecting devices together. The moment that stops being worth it to you, you keep every file and lose only the connecting.
